So, if you read Daniel’s blog, you probably already know that we moved in together. The decision was made quickly, with all the requisite naiveté of people our age, and I don’t think we could be happier about it. From day one, Daniel and I had been pretty much living together anyway, just without the legitimacy of a name on the lease and a rent check. It seemed only a matter of time before this insane step took place. Although we shacked up relatively quickly (faster than a pair of lesbians, as a lesbian friend of mine noted), we tried to come at the situation with the proper amount of level-headedness. We discussed various ways in which we might instate some kind of insurance policy, just in case one of us turned out to be a closeted ax murderer or rabid Justin Bieber fan (whoops, too late!). We ultimately rejected the more sane route of me subletting my apartment and opted instead for something much more satisfying. BOOKPLATES!
Daniel has an impressive collection of books and I have an even more impressive, bordering on hoarder-level, collection of books. With our sometimes overlapping tastes, many of these books overlap as well. We decided that, short of drafting some sort of non-marriage prenuptial agreement, the only responsible thing to do was to make cute little bookplates.
The bookplates, which I designed in Photoshop are 2.5×3 inches and were printed on lovely, cream-colored label sheets from Paper Source. I got the vintage woodcut images from this Flickr stream. Paper Source provides pretty simple Word/Pages/InDesign templates on their website, so it was a simple matter of cutting, pasting, and printing the labels and then putting them into our massive library of books. I feel so adult!

My sister was upset with the similarly-styled image I made that featured a picture of her cross-eyed with the words, “I pee upside down” next to it. Feeling kind of bad that it was not viewed as humorously as I thought it would be, I created some more images for her to use on her MySpace profile.

Okay. I’m totally sorry for not posting in like a WEEK, but I’ve been really busy. I was busy this weekend, when I decided to lend a hand (or like all of my hands) to my sister’s project on Vaudeville. We decided to make an iMovie in the fashion of “Best In Show” and “A Mighty Wind” with spoofy interviews with people about Vaudeville along with “historical” clips of Vaudevillian movies. We’re not completely finished with it, but, MY GOD, it’s awesome so far. Like, really. I didn’t know that iMovie could do so much! Or that you could get that high of video quality from using only a DIGITAL CAMERA. Not even a digital camcorder. A regular, $300 ghetto plastic DIGITAL CAMERA with movie mode. It’s awesome! Along with being ULTRA COOL, the movie was also very time consuming. We basically spent a good portion of the weekend and the beginning of this week working on it. You can see some of the photos used in the iMovie on my Flickr Stream starting here. (Keep clicking the “back” arrow to see the photos.)
If you go through the photos until you get past all the old-fashioned looking photos of eighth grade girls in skimpy lingerie smoking incense sticks, you will see some photos of the same girls shopping at Target and a local thrift store. At these places, we were picking out all of the skimpy, supposedly Vaudevillian-style clothing used in the photo/movie shoot. At Target, we bought three pairs of fishnet stockings (in different colors, too!). At the thrift store, we bought several dresses, including VERY, VERY short silk somethings from such places as Victoria’s Secret. We also bought some shoes, an idea I was kind of opposed to, because…. shoes from a thrift store? Ew! (See pictures of us picking out shoes by clicking here.)
After the shopping, we got home, the girls got styled up, and we began our photo/movie shoot. We even went outside in the FREEZING COLD, the girls only wearing their short, short skirts and furry stoles. A neighbor asked us where they were going all dressed up, and one of them said, “We’re working on a Social Studies project!” (See pictures of them standing outside by clicking here.)

So today my sister and I decided that we were sick of the desktop I had made for her of Adam Brody from The OC. She then said that she wanted a desktop with friends characters. As usual, I got way to excited about it and overdid the whole thing a bit. I ended up with almost 20 Friends related desktops. And guess what! You can download them! Click here and click Friends desktops! — (Oh, and so I don’t get arrested for using material with copyrights, we downloaded these photos from other Friends fan sites. I did NOT take the photos on my own…..obviousy. :P)

Above is a picture of the art chair I made, or decorated, actually, for my art class final. The artist who’s style I was supposed to base the chair’s look on was Helen Frankenthaler. I don’t know if it’s the best thing I’ve ever made, but sculpture and 3D art isn’t exactly my thing. It’s pretty good, even though it’s pretty plain compared to some of the other chairs students have made.
