It haven’t posted photos of my apartment’s living room since July 2008 and a lot has changed since then. I got two new sets of chairs, a new rug, a few new lamps, and some other fun decorative items. Although I really loved the way my apartment looked two years ago, I have to say that it’s come together a lot more over the past few years. In the above photo, you can see the gold chair I got from my grandfather’s house (Izzie is sitting on it). On the left side of the room is the lime green 50s chair I purchased for $20 at Sloan’s antiques.
A close-up of the green chair with the two screen printed pillows I purchased at Hero Design Studio over my break. I got the chair for such a cheap price because it had a moderately sized gash on its seat. I touched it up with a bit of silver duct tape, something that I think lends it a bit of charm.
Above the chair, you can see my collection of vintage glass bottles. I picked a few of them up from the Brooklyn Flea, some from Junk in Williamsburg, some of them from outings to bars, and a few of them from my grandfather’s house. The coke bottles with the red labels are actually new. I purchased them at a bodega on my street’s corner.
On the floor is a magazine bin I constructed using an antique whiskey box (another Sloan’s find) and a few casters. I got the idea from Door Sixteen (via Emma’s Design Blog).
Another image of the box with a peak of the long wooden bench my roommate Angela constructed:
Now, for the other side of the room. In the corner, you will notice that I replaced the lamps. The new lamp was on sale for $30 at Urban Outfitters. The retro-style carpet (also an Urban Outfitters purchase) that I had in the room before got way too ratty, so I replaced it with a white shag carpet from Target.
On the next shelf down from the lamp, I have a vintage-style clock ($10 at Urban Outfitters) on top of some of the cigar boxes I purchased in Buffalo.
Some photos of the mantle:
On the wall above the couch is a series of six paintings I created while studying at Brooklyn College. They’re tempera paint on top of pages from a vintage children’s mystery book.
