Hoa on the bike 2

Hoa and I skipped school yesterday. Sort of. We were planning on going to the thrift store after school to buy clothes for the photoshoot we have coming up, but I discovered during first period that I had forgotten my wallet at home. I turned to Hoa and asked her if she just wanted to leave school after third period and walk back to my house. She was pretty excited about it.

I signed out of school and we started walking back to my house. Hoa was starving, so I shared some of my lunch (peanut butter sandwiches and dates) with her until we got home and fixed a little bit of lunch. We called Deion who said he would be able to get the car at four o’clock to drive us to the thrift store. Having a ton of time left before then, we decided to ride our bikes across the city to Target to buy a DVD.

It was pretty exciting. Just the fact that we were out on bikes, enjoying the great weather while everybody else was suffering through the school day. We rode past Delaware Park, over the expressway and down Delaware Avenue to Target. Hoa was a little exhausted by the time we got there and she was a bit shocked at how far we had ridden. “I didn’t think it was this far,” she said. “We’re almost in Kenmore!” We purchased the DVD and some drinks and then started to ride back.

Hoa decided that instead of riding all the way back, we should ride our bikes instead to Main Street and take the subway back. We asked some people for directions and they told us if we just kept riding up Hertel Avenue, we would eventually hit Main Street. I wasn’t really expecting the little journey we had ahead of us. On the West Side, Main Street is directly after Delaware Avenue. In North Buffalo, it’s basically two miles after it. When we finally did get to Main Street, we asked directions to the nearest Subway station, I purchased a subway ticket, and we took our bikes down the elevator and onto the train.

I need to interrupt this post to tell everybody just how great Buffalo’s subway system is. There are a lot of things that people take for granted in this city, and I now know that our subway is one of them. Even though it only runs down one street, compared to the rickety and slow-in-comparison trains in New York City, Buffalo’s trains are like light-speed rocket ships. It seriously only took us like five minutes to get from one end of the city to the other. You could feel the train moving smoothly yet insanely fast through the tracks. Plus, our subway stations are shaped like tunnels. That’s pretty hot if you ask me.

Anyway. We got out of the Subway close to my house and we rode the rest of the way back. When we got back to my house, we locked up the bikes and went inside to rest for a few minutes. Hoa told me that I should get on some less preppy clothes since we were going to be going out shopping. I went upstairs to put something together, but while I was up there, Hoa called me back down. She told me that she had just talked with Deion and he told her that he couldn’t get the car. So, unfortunately, Hoa had to go home and we had to reschedule. Fortunately, though, we did do something fun that day.
