Weekend Recap 5/21

• At school on Friday, Hoa and I hung out behind the stage in the auditorium and watched episodes of House and Sex And The City on DVD on my sleeping bag. We should have maybe been writing our ten-page research papers that are due on Tuesday, but we felt lazy.

• Later in the night, Katie called and said that we’d be going to Six Flags Darien Lake at eleven at night to go to something called “Grad Night” or whatever. I basically told her that it sounded mad crazy shady, but I was alright with going.

• Josh, Katie, and I went to dinner at Towne restaurant at like nine o’clock and decided that since nobody else was really going to Darien Lake, it would kind of be a waste of gas to go all the way out there. We decided to go to Delaware Park instead.

• So we go to Delaware Park, hang out for a little while. The people up there are insanely paranoid and they stop everything they’re doing if a car drives by, just in case it’s the cops. There were a few false alarms and we all ran off into the darkness a couple of times.

• After that, we went with Deion to pick up Katie’s friend Virginia and her boyfriend downtown and drive them to Mighty Taco and then back home.

The Green & Black Party

puff the magic dragon.

So, yesterday was my long-awaited Green & Black party. I don’t feel like recounting every detail because I’m lazy, but it was a pretty interesting night. Russell showed up out of the blue, but it wasn’t that much of a surprise since he’s done it like a bagillion times before. My mood was temporarily brought down when I accidentally broke my digital camera when trying to get a picture of Russell and Katie wearing eachother’s shirts, but luckily Jill was able to take some seriously hard-core awesome pictures of the party with her camera. To see those in a slideshow, click here, but if you want to read all of her funny comments, I’d suggest you check out the album here. In other news, I blame Russell for giving me bad luck with cameras. They always break when he comes to town. [And— for anybody that is wondering— I did not inhale. It was just for the picture.]

Matrices

So, I was watching The Matrix Reloaded a little while ago to try and find some new music for my upcoming party, and I was like, “okay, this movie is pretty hot. Maybe I should theme a party after it. Except not call it ‘The Matrix Party’ because that sounds super nerdy. I’ll call it ‘The Green & Black Party!’ Yay!” If you haven’t been to one of my parties, you probably don’t know this, but I usually have a projector showing some sort of slideshow or movie on a big screen while the party is going on. Recently, I’ve been showing slideshows of my photography. So. This is the photoshoot that we had yesterday for my big Green & Black Party.

It was pretty fun. Hoa met me at my house yesterday morning and we picked up Lloyd, got picked up by Jonathan, and went out to breakfast before picking up Hanh and Deion from our school. After that, we headed downtown and picked up Shannon as she was walking away from her school Downtown. Jonathan needed to get back to school for Spanish class, so he dropped us off in this random place by a bunch of grain elevators.

I had a bit of a frustrating experience trying to get the photos onto Flickr. I didn’t set my Photoshop color settings correctly, so all of the photos had their tints and colors partially washed out when they were transfered to the internet. Sometimes I REALLY hate computers. It’s such a bother getting everything in sync. Annnyway. I had to delete the pictures off of Flickr and upload them all again. (Some monitors that aren’t LCD still don’t display the colors properly, so if anybody knows how to make the colors display properly on all displays, it would be greatly appreciated.) But now they’re finally up. So go look at them! Click here to see the photos in a slideshow and click here to see them in an album.

Out in the courtyard

Jordan's blown away!

Yesterday, a bunch of us got together for a little photoshoot to get is back into the photoshoot-mode and get us ready for our super-duper big photoshoot that we’re planning for Thursday. I brought a bunch of props to school and we got as many people as we could to pose for us in our school’s courtyard. Nobody except seniors is technically allowed out there, but we just told people they were helping me with an art project. Which they kind of were. To see these photos in a slideshow, click here. To view them in an album, click here.

Flower Kiss!

So I was out watering plants in the garden today and I was like, maybe I’ll take some pictures! So I got out my camera and took a few shots. Is it just me, or are flowers kinda sexy? To see the photos in a slideshow, click here. To see them in an album, click here.

Hoa on the bike 2

Hoa and I skipped school yesterday. Sort of. We were planning on going to the thrift store after school to buy clothes for the photoshoot we have coming up, but I discovered during first period that I had forgotten my wallet at home. I turned to Hoa and asked her if she just wanted to leave school after third period and walk back to my house. She was pretty excited about it.

I signed out of school and we started walking back to my house. Hoa was starving, so I shared some of my lunch (peanut butter sandwiches and dates) with her until we got home and fixed a little bit of lunch. We called Deion who said he would be able to get the car at four o’clock to drive us to the thrift store. Having a ton of time left before then, we decided to ride our bikes across the city to Target to buy a DVD.

It was pretty exciting. Just the fact that we were out on bikes, enjoying the great weather while everybody else was suffering through the school day. We rode past Delaware Park, over the expressway and down Delaware Avenue to Target. Hoa was a little exhausted by the time we got there and she was a bit shocked at how far we had ridden. “I didn’t think it was this far,” she said. “We’re almost in Kenmore!” We purchased the DVD and some drinks and then started to ride back.

Hoa decided that instead of riding all the way back, we should ride our bikes instead to Main Street and take the subway back. We asked some people for directions and they told us if we just kept riding up Hertel Avenue, we would eventually hit Main Street. I wasn’t really expecting the little journey we had ahead of us. On the West Side, Main Street is directly after Delaware Avenue. In North Buffalo, it’s basically two miles after it. When we finally did get to Main Street, we asked directions to the nearest Subway station, I purchased a subway ticket, and we took our bikes down the elevator and onto the train.

I need to interrupt this post to tell everybody just how great Buffalo’s subway system is. There are a lot of things that people take for granted in this city, and I now know that our subway is one of them. Even though it only runs down one street, compared to the rickety and slow-in-comparison trains in New York City, Buffalo’s trains are like light-speed rocket ships. It seriously only took us like five minutes to get from one end of the city to the other. You could feel the train moving smoothly yet insanely fast through the tracks. Plus, our subway stations are shaped like tunnels. That’s pretty hot if you ask me.

Anyway. We got out of the Subway close to my house and we rode the rest of the way back. When we got back to my house, we locked up the bikes and went inside to rest for a few minutes. Hoa told me that I should get on some less preppy clothes since we were going to be going out shopping. I went upstairs to put something together, but while I was up there, Hoa called me back down. She told me that she had just talked with Deion and he told her that he couldn’t get the car. So, unfortunately, Hoa had to go home and we had to reschedule. Fortunately, though, we did do something fun that day.

“Number 4, Biotch!”

My father had me stop at the newspaper box this morning because he said he saw my school’s name in the headline and he wanted to know whether it was good news or bad news. It was pretty good news. I picked up the paper to learn that just today, my school was announced as number four on Newsweek’s list of the 100 best schools in the country. I was a bit confused because I had seen what I thought was that issue in an optometrist’s office last week. Now that I think about it, it was probably last year’s list which makes me seriously judge the ability of the optometrist.

To celebrate, my principal had the whole school come to the auditorium at eleven to make a big scene for the news cameras and special guests (the mayor, the superintendent, etc, etc). On the way in the auditorium, students handed out signs that we were supposed to wave as the cameras panned over us. The signs read such things as “Number 4, Biotch!” “We love AP and IB!” and “Dr. Kresse [our principal] is sexy!” You’ve got to hand it to us. For being officially one of the nerdiest schools in the country, we’ve still got somewhat of a sense of humor.

So many things have happened this school year! There was the dead body in the park where we have gym, the finger-loss of the technology teacher, a new principal, a whole bunch of other stuff…. and now this! I guess this is our…. well, I was going to say lucky, but losing your finger and being found dead aren’t exactly lucky things…. so, I guess I’ll say “interesting.” I guess this was our interesting year!
