Pierce Arrow
I shot some pictures last Wednesday at the Pierce Arrow building and I liked the interior so much that I returned yesterday with a lot more people to do a little (or…. big, actually) photo shoot. There are seriously like a bazillion pictures here and I stayed up really late scanning them all. Enjoy! To see the slideshow, click here. To see the album, click here.
I got a new camera!
And check out all of the pictures I’ve taken this week! The black and white ones are going to be used as part of my home test for Cooper Union. Click here to see the pictures I uploaded today! (Also, all of you who donated to my camera fund— I’m going to be taking a ton of pictures this weekend and I’ll be getting your prints out to you as soon as possible.)
Martha’s wise advice….
From today’s Martha show:
Kenny Mayne: Do you give tips on anything?
Martha: What do you want?
Kenny: My daughter annie took a pen to our chair and just like chiselled into it.
Martha: Did you punish her?
Kenny: Uh, we told her, “never do that again.”
Martha: And?
Kenny: She said, “But it’s funny.” She always has a pretty good comeback.
Martha: Well, I’ll tell you what to do. Because I hear they like to go horesback riding, right?
Kenny: Right.
Martha: Well, get them each a horse. and they will not mar your furniture. It’s all about the horse.
Kenny: That has nothing to do with…..
[Audience cheers.]
Martha: Right? If they have their horse…. that’s it!
Kenny: You’re a real disciplinarian.
Self portrait with markings of past events
I drew this for the home test sent my Cooper Union home test. It’s basically me except I’m a voodoo doll. Instead of writing out and labeling little “past events” or something on my body, I made the pins stand for certain events in my past. Dark pins are bad things and light pins are good things.
Probing questions
FADE IN: INT: SCHOOL HALLWAY.
Sitting in the hallway, two people, a girl and a guy, discuss getting financial aid for college.
Girl: I don’t know how I’m going to get financial aid. Do you know how much I’d get?
Guy: Well, are you poor?
(Both the girl and I gasp and look at the guy like, “oh no you didn’t!”)
Guy: Well, I mean, are you like, free lunch poor?
(Both the girl and I laugh nervously. I wonder if he realizes that he is asking really personal questions.)
Girl: Yeah, well, I guess I’m poor enough. (With a slight exaggeration in her tone) I am dirt poor.
Guy: Okay, yeah, you could probably get some money from that. Do you have sucky grades?
FADE OUT.
Trying out the old Duaflex
While visiting New York City, I decided to try out my Kodak Duaflex camera. I had been given the antique camera as a gift and haven’t had a chance to use it until now. When I went to my local camera store, I was told that they type of film that the camera requires, 620 film, is no longer made. I asked around and I found out that the film, or at least an updated version of the film (120 film on a 620 spool) is sold at B&H in New York. To see the photos in a slideshow, click here.
