Nostalgic for a time I never lived.

It’s such a hot summer day. I feel like pretending it’s 1930 and I’m in some ghetto little hotel and the only way to keep cool is to lie on the bed with a big, retro fan blowing on me. While getting some summer reading done (Grapes of Wrath). This hot weather nostalgic feeling is probably coming from listening to the White Stripes every single second of the day. I really don’t want to sound like one of those “ohmygod, this band is AMAZING and they have changed my life” people, but ohmygod, this band is amazing. Seriously. They really are just so different. I love it. I described them as being kind of like Bob Dylan meets the Adams Family. So now I’m kind of just getting all folksy and blue-grassy. I spent a lot of time on iTunes today previewing Woody Guthrie and stuff like that.

Our house is finally getting tidied up a bit now that my sister’s in another one of her WE-NEED-A-CHANGE phases. For some reason, my parents seem to respond to all of my sister’s demands and now we’re re-arranging many of the rooms in our house. We spent a day this week moving all of the stuff from my parents’ room into another bigger room so that the room they were in before could become my father’s office. My sister wants to turn my father’s current office into a lounge/guest bedroom. After all the moving was done, my sister and I spent part of a day cleaning up the mess that was created in the moving process. It was so hot and we both had headaches, so to make the job a little more fun, we pretended that we were both furious with each other and shouted out our conversations.

“GO RECYCLE THIS!”

“OKAY!”

Now that my parents’ room is all cleaned and nice now, it has been my number one hang out place in the house. My usually quite neatsy-freaky room is kind of neglected. I have an air conditioner in there, so it would be an ideal place to be, but my father installed it wrong and all of the condensation drips down into my room instead of down into the outdoors. I had to empty the pot I placed below it a few times since yesterday and it is right now pretty close to the top with water. If there is ever a draught up here, my air conditioner would be quite handy. It’s kind of frustrating that it’s not working, though, and it’s kind of ugly having a big towel and a pot on my floor to collect water falling from the air conditioner. So I’d rather be lying on my parent’s bed pretending that it’s 1930 and I’m trying to be still in the sweltering heat while listening to jazz music and reading old books.

Here are some bands that were around before the white stripes and may have influenced them. I think these bands are phenomenal and I recommend checking them out, you may like them just as much as the White Stripes…

    Recommended albums in parentheses.

    - Television (Marquee Moon) 1979

    - The Modern Lovers (Modern Lovers) 1975

    - Miracle Workers (Inside Out) 1985

    - The Pretty Things (Get the Picture?) 1965

    enjoy.

Ewww, the air-cond water dripping inside instead of out? Heh, that’s quite messed up. Though even my air-cond (which is apparently installed correctly, since the electrical-store people did it) has these wet water marks on the wall beside it.

Or perhaps our ceiling’s just getting old.

Anyway, I think I would enjoy rearranging rooms and stuff. Sounds like a nice change. We went through something like that when we cleaned out the old computer/office room to be my two youngest brothers’ room, but that was about it. I hardly even helped. (Okay, so I hated the paint colours my mother chose. She purposely didn’t let me know she was off to buy them. I’m a bit picky, to say the least.)

Haha, you must get along well with your sister. Shouting’s fun.
